JMC 2033

JMC 2033 may sound like an everyday college class; however, for many students at the University of Oklahoma, it is the foundation of a career and the beginning of an excellent education.

Writing for the Mass Media takes journalism students from one step to the next. With a knowledge and understanding of mass media history and future, Gaylord students prepare for any career they may choose in the intense writing course.

Grammar skills are honed both in lecture and lab settings. Students use several textbooks to fully understand the process of losing academic writing style and gaining the more succinct and journalistic AP style.

Students don't just learn how to write, though. They also gain an understanding of the diverse and ever-changing world around them and how to work in it. One of the main goals of Gaylord College is for students to be successfully employed in their field after graduation. Through this class, students are appropriately prepared for whatever field they choose, whether or not it is in print.

Professor Jenson White, the lecture instructor, has specific goals for the class in her syllabus that can be applied to other classes in the future including: improved writing skills, developed professional skills, defined interests and understanding the core values of a profession.

To enroll in the class, one has to take JMC 1013, pass the Language Skills Test and have at least a sophomore standing.
